This year's Europe Day is particularly significant for the European project: we celebrate 30 years of EU cohesion policy, that is, 30 years of solidarity with the less developed parts of the Union, 30 years with thousands of successfully implemented EU-funded projects. 2018 is also the year of the negotiations for the future budget of the European Union, which will determine to a great extent the fate of Europe’s most important investment policy for the upcoming years.
As progressive politicians representing cities and regions, we stand for an EU budget which is put at the service of the citizens in order to improve their living conditions and to guarantee their social rights.
The European project is based on shared values, democracy, solidarity, the rule of law and living in peace. On Europe Day, I invite all Europeans to rediscover the significance of European integration and to remember that our strength lies in being united in diversity.
Just a year ahead of the 2019 European elections, we should all rally behind this unique project and join forces in the fight for more Europ
Several PES Group members are celebrating Europe Day by organising events in their cities and regions, highlighting the importance of a strong inclusive Europe and showcasing how European structural funds can make a difference in people's lives on the ground.
