Over half of women in the European Union have experienced sexual harassment and one in three women has been a victim of physical and/or sexual violence. This is unacceptable and we must act now!
This is why we are launching a campaign for municipalities, cities and regions to declare themselves as a #SafePlace4Women. This includes the commitment of progressive local and regional leaders to translate the principle of zero-tolerance towards violence against women into concrete actions.
Raising awareness through communication campaigns, educational programmes and training or presentations in schools and universities, banning sexist advertising, opening shelters for victims of violence and rethinking the overall design of our cities are some of our campaign's concrete commitments.
How can you take part?
The list of measures that local and regional authorities can implement to improve women's safety is long, but there is no excuse for inaction. Our campaign identifies twelve concrete actions that municipalities, cities and regions can commit to.
Adopt the resolution! Make cities and regions a safer places for women
Follow the example of many other progressive cities and regions and ask your local or regional council to adopt a resolution.
