Mikko Aaltonen, Member of Tampere City Council, Finland: a roadmap for a Carbon Neutral Tampere by 2030

The city aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 through a comprehensive roadmap encompassing urban planning, mobility, construction, energy, consumption and urban nature. The plan involves 236 specific actions with stakeholder engagement and including a climate campaign, ensuring a collective effort from businesses, communities, universities, and citizens. It is integrated into the city's financial planning via a Climate Budget for transparency and monitoring. Find out more.

 

Arianna Censi, Member of the Local Executive of Milan in charge of mobility, Italy: a urban forestry project in Milan

Forestami is a project that aims to plant three million trees by 2030 in Milan area. It contributes to achieving climate neutrality in the city, improves air quality, raises awareness and increases citizen participation, including the youngest citizens, by involving them in planning and planting activities. Joško Klisović, President of the Assembly of the city of Zagreb, Croatia: increasing the use of renewable energy in Zagreb

The project SOLIZAG aims to increase the use of renewable energy sources in institutions and real estate owned or founded by the city. Through various promotional activities, the project intends also to ensure access to high quality information in order to raise awareness among the general population on the importance of the use of renewable energy. This can solve the problem of dependence on supply and rising costs of electricity in real estate. It also directly contributes to the achievement of national goals related to energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change. Learn more.

Luca Menesini, President of the Province of Lucca, Italy: reuse and recycling at the centre of environmental practices in Capannori

Reducing undifferentiated waste upstream: this is the real challenge of the ‘Zero Waste’ philosophy and strategy of the Tuscan municipality of Capannori, implemented thanks to the great involvement of citizens. Alongside a deep-rootedness in the territory that explains the higher purpose of applying so many good practices in everyday life – to protect the environment and hand over a better cared-for planet to the next generations – it is important to implement a policy to incentivise good practices.
