Together with the Network of Young Councillors of the Young European Socialists (YES), the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), the PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions is proud to host the third and especial edition of our School of young elected politicians, a training for young people coming from all over Europe, elected at the local, or regional level, who have the ambition to make progressive change happen in their respective communities.
This year’s School will focus on an important priority of European progressives: promoting equal access to high-quality early childhood education and care for all children in the European Union. The #ProgressivesSpeakUp School will take place in welcoming Reggio Emilia, Italy, a city led by a progressive Mayor, Luca Vecchi, representative of the Italian Democratic Party (PD). The training will have a duration of 3 days and will begin with arrivals in the morning of Thursday, 7 July and finish by Saturday 9 July 2022 in the afternoon. The closest airports are Bologna and Milan Linate.
The training will be hosted by Reggio Children, our local partner, a world-wide renowned centre for the defence and promotion of the rights and potential of boys and girls. Reggio Children was created to enhance and strengthen the experience of Reggio Emilia's municipal schools and infant-toddler centres, known in Italy and around the world as Reggio Emilia Approach®, so you don't want to miss this one out!
As we guarantee that this year's edition will be a special one, we ask applicants in turn to be mindful of the time commitment and engagement required to be part of the selected few, who will be partaking in this special edition!
To apply to take part in this event, you must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a democratic mandate as an elected politician at regional or local level in a Member State of the European Union;
- Be a member of a progressive, socialist, social-democratic political party;
- Be no more than 35 years old on the day of the event;
- Be fluent in English, as the event will be only in English, without interpretation.
Candidates can apply by 23:59 (CET) on 1 June 2022. They will be informed of the selection results by 3 June 2022.
Please note that registration does not mean automatic acceptance of your application to the #ProgressivesSpeakUp School. Applications will be processed and evaluated according to the motivation expressed. The PES Group will select about 25 candidates who will be able to join this meeting in person in Reggio-Emilia, ensuring balance in terms of gender, regional and local representation and nationality.
Please note that the selected candidates will be reimbursed for their travel, food and accomodation costs - if needed.
