Recent events have shown that nothing, not even our most fundamental rights, can be taken for granted. Abuse of power, violence and attacks on fundamental human rights have happened in recent months both in EU countries and beyond, putting at stake essential European values.
What are our fundamental rights? Is it worth fighting for them? Do we have to give up certain rights in order to keep others? Are some rights only for a selected niche and not for everyone? Then stand up for your rights, take your camera and start shooting!
The European photo competition "My Europe, my rights" invites both amateur and professional photographers to capture in a photo their interpretation of this very topical issue. In order to offer participants some ideas that can be used for inspiration, you will find an "inspiration cloud" on the competition website.
The competition runs until 30 June 2017 and is open to all EU residents aged 18 and over.
This is your chance to win up to EUR 2 000 worth of photographic equipment of your choice, as well as a three-day cultural trip to Brussels for two persons.
The three best photos will be selected by a jury composed of members of the Group of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), representing local and regional authorities across the EU, and professionals from the world of photography. In addition to this, the public will be able to select a fourth winner via an online vote on our Facebook page in September 2017.
Winners will be announced during an award ceremony that will take place in Brussels in the fourth quarter of 2017, to which they will be invited.
For more information on the competition and to access promotional material, please visit the competition website.
The winning photos from previous years' competitions are available on the CoR PES Group's Flickr account.
