The availability and affordability of housing in European cities and regions have reached a critical juncture. Skyrocketing prices and limited affordable options have plunged urban areas into housing crises. Families struggle to find homes they can afford, and vulnerable populations face even greater challenges. The future of housing policy in Europe hangs in the balance.

The PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions, together with PES Group member Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, organised the extraordinary Group meeting on "Housing for all: Progressive cities and regions building the future of housing policy", which will took place in Portimão, Portugal, on Friday 5 April 2024 from 9:00 to 16:30.

At the event, progressive cities and regions from across Europe discussed about how to shape the future of housing.

The event was organised in cooperation with the S&D Group in the European Parliament, the Foundation for European Policy Studies (FEPS), the Young European Socialists (YES), PES Women and the Party of European Socialists (PES)
