Biography and interventions
Born on April 1, 1973, Luca Menesini is an experienced leader dedicated to social justice, sustainability, and democratic values. With a degree in Political Science from the University of Pisa, he began his career managing development projects in Rwanda before focusing on social and health cooperation in Italy.
First, as deputy mayor of Capannori (2004-2014) and then as mayor (2014–2024) and member and president of the Province of Lucca (2015-2024), he has championed sustainability, circular economy policies and welfare.
Since joining the European Committee of the Regions in 2020, Luca has served as Vice-President of both the Party of European Socialists Group and the Committee itself. He has been instrumental in advancing the EU’s environmental agenda as rapporteur on the "EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles." He also chaired the Committee of the Regions' ad hoc committee for the revision of its Rules of Procedure and represented the institution in negotiations to establish an interinstitutional body for ethical standards.
Since 2024, Luca is President of the Municipal Council of Capannori and councillor of the Province of Lucca.
