As the European Commission prepares to present its proposals for the post-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions and the S&D Group in the REGI committee of the European Parliament have addressed a clear message to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In a joint letter, we call for a post-2027 EU budget that is ambitious, fair, and aligned with Europe’s priorities, insisting that new priorities require new resources not cuts to existing policies. We also highlight a critical concern: the future governance of EU funds must preserve multilevel governance and the role of regions and cities, rejecting any recentralisation or renationalisation that would undermine cohesion policy and rural development.
This is not a technical discussion. It is about protecting European democracy, investing in people and places, and ensuring that EU policies truly respond to the needs of Europeans wherever they live.
