On behalf of the PES Group, President Catiuscia Marini expressed today the Group's sorrow about the violent death of British Labour MP Jo Cox:"I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the murder of Jo Cox MP yesterday. The death of such a talented, compassionate person is a tragedy in itself, and when a representative of the people is killed in the course of her duties as a parliamentarian, the blow is still greater.
My thoughts, and those of all our Group members, are with the family, friends, and party fellows of this brave, dedicated woman.
We elected local and regional politicians know that our democracy is precious and fragile. In our daily work protecting the values of our citizens, defending their freedoms and fighting against hatred in all its guises, we will honour Jo Cox."
