Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation is prohibited in the EU but we are a long way away from equal treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people.
How can equality of civil rights, including the legal recognition of same-sex couples and access to public services for LGBTI people be better defended? How can we break stereotypes in education, fight LGBTI bulling and prevent hate crime? And what role can progressive cities and regions play?
These are the key questions that the PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) will seek to address at its seminar organised in cooperation with Rainbow Rose at the headquarters of the CoR in Brussels (Rue Belliard 99-101), on 29 November 2016, from 14.30 to 18.30 (room JDE 52). The seminar will be followed by a social event.
Key speakers include Helena Dalli, Malta's Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, Daniele Viotti MEP (S&D/Italy), Liliana Rodrigues MEP (S&D/Portugal), PES Group President Catiuscia Marini, President of the Umbria Region (PES/Italy), and Aurélien Mazuy, President of Rainbow Rose.
