10/2/2017
It won 38% of the votes and now holds 159 town halls out of the 308 that Portugal has. This includes Lisbon, the capital of the country and Portugal's biggest city. The results show a positive response from the population to the policies promoted by the Left Bloc (Socialists, Communists and Greens) lead by the Prime Minister António Costa, previous Mayor of Lisbon and former member of the Committee of the Regions where he chaired the CIVEX Commission for two and a half years. According to national pools, the support to the Party stays at 40.3%, showing an increase in consensus from the 32% gained during the October 2015 general elections.

"I warmly congratulate all the newly-elected mayors for their victory. Particularly, I want to wish Fernando Medina, neo-elected Mayor of Lisbon, a lot of success in implementing his vision for Lisbon. I look forward to working closely with him in the European Committee of the Regions", commented PES Group President Catiuscia Marini after the elections' positive outcome.

On behalf of the PES Group, the President also welcomes back all the re-elected PES Group members and looks forward to welcoming the new ones.
