The PES Group organised its yearly extraordinary meeting in Rijeka (Croatia) on 31 August at the invitation of Vojko Obersnel, Mayor of Rijeka and Head of the Croatian delegation to the Committee of the Regions. They key note speech was given by Zoran Milanović, Prime Minister and President of the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP).

The debates were structured around two roundtables, focusing on the current state of play of the EU's industrial agenda as well as levers and best practices for industrial renewal.

The 10-point Socialist agenda for industrial renewal, adopted by the Group as result of the discussions, formulates 10 key demands and aims to feed the views of social democrat and progressive regional and local representatives into the revision of the European Union's flagship initiative on industrial policy, due to be presented by the European Commission at the end of September 2012.
